Established in 1950, the School of Finance (SFRUC) stands as one of the original pillars of Renmin University, marking its significance as the first institution in New China dedicated to nurturing senior talents in finance and public finance. It has played a pioneering role in the development of these disciplines, contributing to their establishment and evolution within the country. Since 2004, when the Ministry of Education initiated the first-level subject evaluation, SFRUC's finance and public finance sectors have consistently achieved the highest national ranking (A+). In 2021, the Hanqing Institute was merged into the School of Finance, greatly increasing the school's disciplinary strength. Furthermore, in the latest Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, SFRUC's finance discipline proudly ranks 28th globally and maintains the top position in mainland China.
SFRUC's commitment to excellence is reflected in its adoption of internationally advanced financial disciplines and higher education models. The school aims to establish a leading financial higher education and research platform that meets both domestic and international standards. Its faculty comprises a mix of renowned scholars and dynamic young educators, many of whom are graduates from world-class universities. This diverse team has significantly contributed to the school's academic output, with over 100 articles published in prestigious international journals such as the American Economic Review and the Journal of Finance, thereby elevating its international academic influence.
The school offers an extensive array of programs, including undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees, a finance EMBA, and executive education, all designed to produce graduates who are deeply rooted in China yet possess a broad international perspective. SFRUC's alumni network is a testament to its success, with many members playing key roles in advancing China's financial industry.
SFRUC has also established long-term cooperative relationships with several leading overseas universities, including Yale University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Cambridge. These partnerships facilitate a range of substantive projects, such as faculty and student exchanges, joint training, and collaborative education programs. Notably, SFRUC launched China’s first financial technology master’s program taught entirely in English in 2020, attracting a diverse cohort of international students from over 55 countries and regions.
