On July 23, 2024, the China-US Student Leaders Financial Dialogue was held at Renmin University of China. Jointly hosted by the School of Finance at RUC and the US-based CET Academic Programs, and organized by the International Monetary Institute of RUC, the event's theme was “Promoting International Cooperation for Global Supply Chain Security.” It aimed to deepen academic and cultural exchanges between Chinese and American students in the financial sector. The event was chaired by Deng Hui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Finance.
The event began with a welcoming speech by Luo Yu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Finance at RUC, representing the hosts. He highlighted the school’s focus on professional and international talent training as one of China's earliest-established educational and research bases for finance and economics. The China-US Student Financial Dialogue, now in its tenth year, has significantly facilitated learning exchanges between students from both countries. This year's theme, “Promoting International Cooperation for Global Supply Chain Security,” encouraged the exploration of collaborative prospects for global supply chain security, guiding young scholars to contribute to the development of a community with a shared future for humanity. He expressed gratitude for the support from various sectors and hoped that the Dialogue would continue to grow, fostering more talent for China-US cooperation and global peace development.
A total of 24 papers were selected for the forum, with 12 from American students and 12 from Chinese students. The participants exchanged ideas on global value chains, trade policies, international cooperation, green finance, artificial intelligence, and other perspectives, showcasing the youth's close attention and forward-thinking on global finance and supply chain security.
Professors Zhao Ran from the Capital University of Economics and Business, Chen Zhaojing from RUC, Zhao Xuankai from the Central University of Finance and Economics, and Wang Jingye from RUC provided commentary on the students' presentations. The professors praised the academic prowess, practical abilities, and sense of responsibility towards building a community with a shared future for humanity demonstrated by students from both countries. They emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary exchanges and international cooperation, encouraging students to innovate and collaborate through rigorous research and ongoing dialogue to promote international coordination and stability in the supply chain sector.
Song Yuanyuan, Director of the Office of International Cooperation at the School of Finance, introduced the history and development of the school, its educational philosophy, and training programs, inviting students to study or pursue further education at RUC in the future.
An Ran, Executive Secretary-General of the International Monetary Institute and Executive Secretary-General of the Golden Sycamore Global Talent Program, announced the list of award winners. Certificates were presented to the awardees by attending teachers and guests, who congratulated all students on their outstanding achievements.
The event concluded with a summary by Liang Xia, Academic Director of the CET Summer Chinese Program and a professor at the University of Washington. She thanked the organizers for their meticulous preparation, congratulated the award-winning students, and affirmed their excellent presentations. She expressed her belief that this exchange would further enhance mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese and American students, promoting more in-depth exchanges and cooperation in the future.
After the dialogue session, Chinese and American students enjoyed a lively cultural exchange over dinner. They alternately performed well-prepared programs. The cultural collision between China and the US sparked a vibrant exchange, creating warm friendships in a joyful atmosphere.
Throughout the dialogue, Chinese and American students adhered to the principle of “seeking common ground while reserving differences, cooperation for mutual benefit.” They objectively analyzed the current challenges facing global supply chain security and thoroughly explored the prospects for China-US cooperation in promoting global supply chain security, providing valuable insights for building a community with a shared future for humanity. The forum offered an open, active, and inclusive platform for intellectual exchange between students from Chinese and American universities, deepening their understanding of China-US economic and trade relations and fostering a profound friendship between the younger generations of both countries.
