摘要:Ms. Bi will discuss the modeling of fiscal limits using structured models based on her recent work. In particular, she will explain how to use this framework for operational policies. A country’s fiscal limit is a point at which, for economic or political reasons, taxes and spending can no longer adjust to stabilize debt. Fiscal limits are uncertain, and the distribution depends on fiscal policy, private sector behavior, and fundamental shocks to the economy. She will start with a real closed economy model to explain the basic concept, and then expand the simple model by including more realistic features, like asymmetric policy shocks, tax evasions, and exchange rate. Ms. Bi will also briefly discuss her recent joint work with Nora Traum on estimating fiscal limits using particle filter.
